CHURCH HISTORY July2016 to September2016

Church History

Course description / limitation:
This course basically examines the critical turning points in the history of church.
However, it is to select a limited number of turning points as the critical moments in Christian history is wide-ranging; it is unlikely to cover them all. Jesus’ statements to his disciples recorded in Matthew 28 and Acts 1 hang the framework for the history of Christianity.

At the end of the course, we will be able to understand better
the critical turning points,
to know the theological authorities,
early cultures
and
understandings of the early church.

Several reasons why at least some attention to the history of Christianity is valuable.

  1. Studying the history of Christianity provides repeated, concrete demonstration concerning the irreducibly historical character of the Christian faith.
  2. To provide perspective on the interpretation of Scripture.
  3. The study of church history is also useful as a laboratory for examining Christian interactions with surrounding cultures.
  4. Study of the past can be useful, that is, in shaping proper Christian attitudes.
